Starting January 1, 2026, the insured amount under the compulsory motor third-party liability insurance (CMTPL) in Uzbekistan will increase from 40 million to 80 million Uzbek soums.
This change is stipulated in the new Resolution No. 458 of the Cabinet of Ministers, adopted on July 23, 2025, in accordance with the Presidential Decree dated March 1, 2024.
According to the document, the increase in coverage limits is aimed at addressing the discrepancy between actual post-accident repair costs and the amount of insurance payouts.
The current coverage limits are:
- up to 14 million soums for property damage,
- up to 26 million soums for bodily injury or death.
In practice, these amounts are often insufficient even for partial vehicle repairs, especially when multiple victims are involved and the compensation must be divided proportionally.
Starting from 2026, insurance policy prices will also change. The annual insurance premium will be:
- 160,000 soums in the regions,
- 192,000 soums in Tashkent (for passenger vehicles with a limited number of drivers).
In addition to increasing the coverage amounts, the resolution introduces several other changes:
- the option to issue policies with either a limited or unlimited number of drivers,
- clarification of the dispute resolution procedure for insurance claims,
- expanded functions of the Insurance Compensation Guarantee Fund, including legal consultation and loss adjusting services,
- electronic data exchange between government agencies,
- development of a Unified Automated Information System for compulsory insurance.
